Color at The Co·Lab

At the Color and Curl Co·lab, I want potential clients to understand that blonde, platinum, and fantasy color hair is a luxury hair color service that requires a significant investment of time, care, and dedication. As an expert colorists, I take great care in ensuring that every aspect of the coloring process is meticulously executed to produce stunning, long-lasting results.

I recognize that maintaining these colors requires a lot of added steps and extra maintenance in your at-home hair care routine. That’s why I recommend specific at-home hair care products to maintain your blonde, platinum, or fantasy color, which can range from $30-$40 per bottle.

My blonding services start at $400, and if you have any previous hair color on your hair, this is considered a color correction, which starts at $550. All of the hair coloring prices vary depending on the length and density of your hair, and prices may also be adjusted based on the amount of different colors applied to your hair.

I take great pride in my attention to detail and use only the highest quality products and techniques to ensure that your hair remains healthy and vibrant long after your appointment. At the Color and Curl Co·lab, I truly believe that investing in luxury hair color services is an investment in yourself, and I am committed to helping you look and feel your best.

Color Consultations

I’m only available for hair appointments Monday-Wednesday-Fridays. I do not work weekends.

What do hair color consultations cover?

At Color and Curl Co·Lab consultations go over hair color history, hair color expectation, hair care routine expectations, any questions the client may have, any hair preparation instructions, any hair aftercare instructions, and hair care plan of action.

Does the consultation cost go towards my appointment?

I consider knowledge valuable. In your consultation we’ll go over topics you may or may not know pertaining to your hair coloring service. Consultations also serve as a short educational appointment. I consider a consultation a separate service and the cost of the consultation will not go towards the cost of the service.

What do I need to do to prep for my appointment?

How long is the wait to do my appointment after the consultation? booking a consultation does not ensure you will be serviced within your desired time frame.  Follow up bookings could be days or weeks. The longest wait is 12 weeks. If I cannot accommodate any new bookings, consultation requests will be disabled for new bookings.

Lighten and Tone appointments cover a vast array of color combinations. Any Color the service provider has to lift with lightener and then deposit color into is considered a lighten and tone. This goes for bright coppers, bright red, blondes and even fantasy colors.

Fantasy Color

Fantasy color appointments require your hair to be lifted for over an hour and then color deposited. Upon your consultation, your stylist will tell you about how long it may take to give you your desired result.

Why is it important to research your colorist?

As cosmetologist we gain our license by learning basic technique but mostly sanitation. As a color specialist, I have chosen to specialize in learning about color, color composition, and the chemistry of color. This means I have spent additional money outside of normal school hours to learn about hair color. As a curl specialist, I have spent money outside of regular cosmetology school to learn curls, products, and cutting curls in the dimension they live. I know firsthand how to style your hair as it is without doing Braids, Twists, or rod sets. With these two combinations, I am able to serve a community of women who are searching for a color and curl specialist.

What is the difference between temp, demi, semi, permanent, and lightener?

Temporary hair color is like nail polish. It washes off over time and only shows up on bright canvases. Semi permanent hair color is the same thing as saying temporary hair color. Demi permanent hair color does not change the actual color of the hair. It’s stains the hair with color that lasts longer than a temporary aka semi permanent hair color. A permanent hair color changes your natural hair color. It does not wash out, it grows out. Lightener lifts your natural hair color for a brighter hair color to be applied. You would use lightener for bright copper, bright red, blues, purples, greens, etc.

Why does porosity matter?

The only time porosity matters is when dealing with hair color. If you have low porosity hair, it will be harder for your hair color to change. If you have high porosity, your hair color hues may not last as long or they will get dull quickly. The best part of a consultation and strand test is to identify the porosity of the clients hair in order to make a plan of action for hair color services.

What to do before your appointment?

You do not want to have creams or oils present in your hair upon your coloring service. These products are too heavy and will interfere with how the color molecules land in your hair shaft. It is advised at your consultation what you should do before your appointment. You also should not not work out within three hours of your hair coloring appointment. Working out opens your pores and makes your scalp more sensitive during the coloring process. Your hair must be stretched for the coloring service. A blow dryer is not necessary, but a chunky twist out will do.

Coloring techniques.

All over hair color is for single application permanent color. This typically does not go beyond a medium copper, dark red or light brown. A lightener and color is for high coppers, bright reds, and blondes. Highlights and balayage take the same amount of time. Highlights are “streaky” and balayage is a “lived in” look. We can combine to two! A color melt is when your roots are melted into your transitioning color. (Black-brown-to blonde). All of these terms and techniques will be discussed in depth during your consultation.

Touch-ups and at home care.

Your hair color touch-ups will depend on how you want your hair to look like as the color grows out. If you are looking for blonde, silvers, or bright hair colors, it is best to re-color your hair every 6 to 8 weeks to avoid banding (dark lines in the hair). I do advise all of my clients to use  Olaplaex as part of their at home care as well as pigmented shampoos to tone or add to their current hair color.

Styling with curly finish.

This is a COLOR and CURLS forward salon. We believe you shouldn’t need your hair straightened to receive a stellar hair color. We know how to work with the curly and high density as well as wavy to lore density. We are experts in placement of color that accentuates your hair in the curly state.

Difference between Olaplex and difference of K18.

Olaplex is a three step system that repairs the hair by targeting the disulfide bond and is a more structural repair. The K18 treatment is one step and reverses hair damage in four minutes by repairing polypeptide chain. So all in all, K18 is able to have a deeper reach for repair than Olaplex.

Fashion Colors.

Fashion colors are abstract colors like blues, purples, greens, high reds, high oranges, and yellows. These colors are achieved by lightening the hair to blonde and depositing the colors when you choose fashion colors, you are choosing high maintenance haircare. you will need a dedicated shampoo and deep conditioner as well as leave in conditioner. Your water temperate will have to differ as well as what you tend to style your hair with.
